Advice to your Younger Self – Celebrating IWD 2024
To celebrate International Women’s Day this year, we were keen to focus not just on one day, but mark the occasion by highlighting the incredible women that we have the pleasure of knowing and working with. This years’ campaign theme was ‘Inspire Inclusion’, shining light on the importance for everyone to do what they can to ensure women are understood and included both in the workplace, and out of it. To honour this years’ theme, we reached out to a number of our colleagues and connections, asking them what advice they would give to their younger selves, in the hopes of inspiring other women and girls as they navigate whatever life throws at them.
Julma Begum | Taylor Walton Solicitors
“Embrace challenges in life, learn from failures and cherish the journey- growth often comes from the unexpected.”
Emma Ellis | Amber Mountain Marketing
“Do not say no through fear or judgement, you will always regret the things you didn’t do.”
Tamara Glanvill | Taylor Walton Solicitors
“Back yourself and be yourself. Learn from those you admire, but don’t mimic them – authenticity is key to your personal and professional success.”
Tricia Moxey | Taylor Walton Solicitors
“You may not be able to control all events that happen to you but you can decide not to be reduced by them!”
Cheryl Luzet | Wagada Digital
“I’ve learnt to listen – really listen – and ask questions to get to the absolute crux of what people are trying to say. I also pause after people have finished speaking to see if they have more to add. Don’t be so quick to jump in with what you think.”
Georgia Strazza | Aitchison Raffety
“Life rarely goes according to plan. Be adaptable and open to change. Embrace unexpected opportunities and challenges.”
Gabby Stevenson | Taylor Walton Solicitors
“Always believe in yourself. Don’t fear the unknown. Embrace every challenge. Seize every opportunity. Every experience, even if negative, will be of value one day.”
Donna Schultz | Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce
“Be brave and don’t be afraid to try new things. Be confident that when new opportunities come your way you are good enough. And never stop being yourself. You can achieve anything you want to if you soak up all the knowledge around you, ask for support when it’s needed – and ask lots of questions.”
Sukina Dhillon | Taylor Walton Solicitors
“Be honest with yourself and others if things don’t turn out exactly as you had planned!”
Ananda Hale | Jarvis Commercial Properties
“Make a decision and act on it – procrastination doesn’t get anything done.”
Alice Chapman | Barnardos
“Focus on your strengths and follow your own path of what makes you happy; believe in yourself and trust your own abilities and don’t worry too much about what others think!”
Lauren Windsor | Taylor Walton Solicitors
“Life is short, so don’t be afraid to dive into opportunities and make sure to have fun whilst doing so. Every challenge that you face is just a fabulous chance to grow your mind.”
